Oil Sampling / Oil Analysis / Oil Analysis Interpretation

An important part of any transformer maintenance program is the routine sampling and analysis of transformer oil. AGECO International FZE’s knowledgeable site service personnel are trained in transformer oil sampling.

Oil Testing is only half the work done without correct and accurate analysis, it serves no worthwhile purpose. Our personnel are well equipped with experience, which is our routine activity, to be able to analyze the results and predict any kind of rapid degradation of Oil parameters, or advice residual life expectancy or fault interpretation. We follow it up with site visit and testing of other parameters of your equipment, to confirm the assessment, and help the customer take preventive and corrective measures well within time.

At site itself, we conduct on the spot, oil tests like breakdown dielectric test, moisture content, power factor of the oil and dissolved gases analysis. We also provide additional tests which can be conducted in our partners’ laboratory dedicated for transformer oil analysis.

All the following tests are conducted as per IEC standard or as per specific requirement:

  • Water content
  • Dielectric breakdown
  • Dissolved Gas analysis:
    • Hydrogen (H2)
    • Methane (CH4)
    • Acetylene (C2H2)
    • Ethylene (C2H4)
    • Ethane (C2H6)
    • Carbon Monoxide (CO)
    • Carbone Dioxide (CO2)
    • Oxygen
    • Nitrogen
  • Dissipator factor (90°C and 50Hz)
  • Furanic compounds
  • Copper Sulphur
  • Acidity index
  • Color
  • Particles counter:
    • 5 – 15 µm
    • 15 – 25 µm
    • 25 – 50 µm
    • 50 – 100 µm
    • Over 100 µm
  • Metal search
  • Sediments
  • Density
  • Polymerization index
  • Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs).

Transformer Signature:

Establish the time-zero condition of your transformer with our Signature package. The recommended Transformer oil tests in this package include:

  • Dissolved Gas Analysis
  • Water content
  • Dielectric Breakdown Voltage
  • Furan in oil
  • Inhibitor Content
  • PCB analysis
  • Power Factor 27°C and 90°C
  • Copper Sulphur

Fault Determination:

This basic package is the first step when trying to locate and identify a specific transformer problem. The results from these Transformer oil tests allow you to determine what other tests need to be performed in order to have a clear understanding of your transformer’s actual condition.

The recommended tests in this package include:

  • Dissolved Gas Analysis
  • Furan content
  • Water content
  • Dielectric Breakdown Voltage
  • Metals in Oil
  • Copper Sulphur

Routine Test:

It is recommended to perform routine tests at least once a year in order to monitor the health of your transformers. Faults can occur at any stage of your transformer’s life and evolve rapidly. Testing your transformers on a regular basis will allow you to detect any unforeseen change in the condition of your transformers.

The recommended tests in this package include:

  • Water content
  • Dielectric Breakdown Voltage
  • Dissolved Gas Analysis
  • Furan Content
  • Tan Delta, Resistivity
  • Acidity
  • IFT
  • Flash Point
  • Sludge
  • Copper Sulphur

Pre Commissioning:

When a new transformer is commissioned, AGECO International FZE recommends that the following test package be performed immediately.

The recommended tests in this package include:

  • Dielectric Breakdown Voltage
  • Dissolved Gas Analysis
  • Water content
  • Power Factor 27°C and 90°C
